Ice Hockey Team Off to Strong Start
Saturday, December 30, 2017
The Newington HS Co-op Hockey team extended its winning streak to 4 games with victories over Norwalk/McMahon and Joel Barlow this past week. The two victories brought the team's win-loss record to 4-0 which is the best start for the team since the 2012-2013 season.
In the 3-1 win over Norwalk/McMahon the team rode the offense of sophomore Nick Deriu and strong goaltending to post a hard-fought victory. Deriu continued his scoring streak with a goal and 2 assists in the victory over Joel Barlow. Again, strong goaltending by 3 players including sophomore Alex DiPaola's varsity debut along with defensive efforts by senior co-captain Cole Pratte and freshman Sam Davies forged an 11-0 thumping.
The team will look to extend its winning streak Wednesday night in a 6:05 contest at the Newington Arena against Shepaug.
